Turkish lira falls with Ankara's intention to launch attacks on N, E Syria

The Turkish lira fell against the dollar on Monday after the White House said Ankara would launch an offensive in northern and eastern Syria.

At 07.17 GMT, the Turkish lira was trading at 5.7450, retreating from a close of 5.7 on Friday, according to Reuters.

The lira lost about 30 percent of its value against the dollar in a currency crisis last year, triggered by concerns about political interference in monetary policy, as well as the deterioration of relations between Washington and Ankara. The lira has fallen about 8 percent since the start of the year.
