The number of Turkish soldiers in Qatar has risen to "a significant number," as the two countries prepare to announce a grand opening ceremony for a new military base for Ankara in the capital Doha in the autumn, the Hurriyet newspaper reported on Wednesday.
The writer and broadcaster Handy Firat said that the new base is near the Tariq bin Ziyad military base in Doha, where it is completed, stressing that under the new rule will increase the number of Turkish soldiers in Qatar "to a large number.
"Qatar attaches great importance to this military base. They are talking about the grand opening ceremony in the fall. The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are expected to announce the opening ceremony," added Firat.
