The Movement congratulated Kurdistan people and the peoples of Mesopotamia on the occasion of Newroz 2020.
The statement included:
“First of all, we congratulate the advent of Newroz on our Kurdish people, all the peoples of Mesopotamia and the region, all families of the martyrs of freedom and all fighters on the fronts of honor and dignity; the People Protection Units (YPG), Women Protection Units (YPJ) and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The peoples of Mesopotamia celebrate the victory of the will of freedom over slavery by flaming fire as an expression of the birth of a new day so that this flame becomes a symbol of victory.”
The statement pointed to the historical significance of Newroz: "Newroz in essence represents the will and unity of the resistant peoples and the will of the struggling peoples against the dictatorial and oppressive regimes of the era that pursued the annihilation of the people and the denial of their existence, while the will had the final word, so victory over the forces of evil and darkness was a must, as it became the cornerstone of a new life with the first spark lit by Kawa al-Haddad.”
The Movement's statement drew attention to the spirit of resistance represented by Newroz: “Newroz has a long history. It is considered one of the most ancient and valuable national holidays that has served the society and will, and has become holy to the rest of the components of Mesopotamia. It has been being celebrated by our Kurdish people over thousands of years, starting from mountains to prisons and from cities to all arenas throughout Kurdistan and the world thanks to the sacrifices made by our resistant people in the face of all tyrants and occupiers.”
The Movement confirmed that it will make Newroz a basis for the liberation of the occupied territories by Turkey: “In the spirit of Newroz 2020, we will make Newroz a basis for the liberation of all occupied areas from Afrin, Serêkaniyê, Girê Spî and the rest of the regions from the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries.”
At the end of her statement, the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) called on the people to adhere to the preventive measures to confront the Corona virus: “We in the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) urge our people and all the peoples of northern and eastern Syria that this year’s Newroz differs from all previous years since humanity is facing the most dangerous viruses, and to avoid this coming danger, we must adhere to the directives of the Health Body in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.”
This does not prevent celebration by lighting candles and decorating homes and balconies overlooking the squares and streets.
Long live Newroz flame a symbol of resistance and freedom.
