Taliban Movement is preparing to hold round of talks in Qatar

A spokesman for the Afghan Taliban movement that representatives of the movement is meeting with US officials today in Qatar, to resume negotiations aimed at ending a war that has been going on for 17 years in Afghanistan.

According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, it is expected that the meeting will start within the next two hours that the US delegation has arrived. According to Reuters.

After several rounds of peace negotiations between Washington and the Taliban in recent months, US envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad during his visit to Kabul on Sunday, there is "slow progress" in the negotiations, pointing to the possibility of achieving a peace agreement between the Taliban and the Afghan government soon.

However, Khalil indicated that any peace agreement with the Taliban would depend on a declaration of a permanent ceasefire and a commitment to end the civil war.

The two sides held frequent meetings to discuss a framework for a eventual peace deal in which the Taliban pledge to stop using Afghanistan as a haven for terrorism in return for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
