S.P.A rejects Sudanese army's statement, calls for demo

Sudanese Professionals Association who are leading the popular movement, announced their rejection of the army's statement and called for continued demonstrations until a civil government is formed.

The Sudanese Professionals Association (S.P.A) on Thursday rejected a statement by Sudanese Defense Minister, lieutenant general Awad bin Awaf, who announced the overthrow of Omar al-Bashir and his arrest.

The defense minister has announced the formation of a military council to run the country in a two-year transitional period.

In its statement, the S.P.A. stressed that "it is only possible to hand over power to a national civil transitional government based on the consensus of the masses in the Declaration of Freedom and Change."

He also pointed out that the sit-in continues until the goals of the revolution are declared in detail in the Declaration of Freedom and Change.
