Sozdar Ahmed: Alouk water station must be neutralized from conflict

For the 13th time in a row, the Turkish occupation cuts off the water of the Alouk station that feeds more than a million people in Hasakah and its environs, while the co-chair of the Water Directorate in Hasakah canton called repeatedly to the international community, to neutralize the Alouk station from the conflict.

The Alouk water station, which is under the control of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, after its attacks on the Serêkaniyê region on the 9th of October 2019, is located east of SerêKaniyê, which feeds more than a million and a half in Hasaka and its suburbs, in addition to a huge number of displaced people in all occupied cities as a result of the occupation attacks and the residents of Al Hol camp, Al Areesha and Washokani.

This is not the first time that the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries cut off water from Hasaka canton, since its occupation of the region, it has been cut off for the 13th time in a row, increasing the suffering of the people, in light of the outbreak of the new Corona pandemic in the regions of northeast Syria.

The last of them was on the 12th of last April, when the Alouk station was stopped after the burning of the power station in the Darbasiyah sub-district that feeds the Alouk station, as a result of the excessive use of electricity by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, which led to material damage to the station.

Through the tremendous efforts of the Energy Authority workshops, they repaired the station and fed the Alouk station with electricity 24 hours continuously, but it has not been operated by the occupation and its mercenaries under the pretext lack of electricity despite feeding them with electricity, according to the co-chair of the Water Directorate in Al-Hasakah Province Sozdar Ahmed.

Sozdar said during her interview with ANHA agency: “After international appeals and communication mediated by Russia, Turkey delivered the water, as they allowed the plant to operate, and the agreement was that they would obtain more than 7 megabytes of electricity in exchange for operating only 10% of the Alouk station, despite the fact that the Alouk station's capacity needs only 3 megabytes.

Adding, "That is, there is an excessive demand for electricity from them, about 6 megabytes, in exchange for operating the Alouk station."

The Alouk station consists of 30 wells and 8 pumps. The Turkish occupation and its mercenaries allow the operation of two to three pumps and 10 wells to 15 wells only, according to Ahmed.

She noted that the amount of water received is very small, noting that “there are violations of the water line by farmers in the occupied villages. Therefore, the amount of water coming to Hasakah is very small and only 5% of the needs of Hasakah are sufficient, as its need is about 70 thousand cubic meters per day, and it does not come more than 15 to 20 cubic meters, in the event that the station continues to operate.

'There is no solution but to neutralize the Alouk station from the conflict'

She pointed out that although mediation may push Turkey to operate the Alouk station, it will remain intermittent and not permanent. She said: “They operate it for two or three hours and turn it off for 4 or 5 hours, and we need more than a full day to fill the tanks to be pumped to the people. "

At the end of her speech, Sozdar said: “We appeal to all international organizations, the United Nations, the International Red Cross and the actors on the ground, especially (the Russian guarantor, the Global Coalition), to seriously intervene, and we affirm that there is no solution except by forcing the Turkish occupation to neutralize the Alouk station from the conflict, because there is no other alternative for the people.
