Security and demonstrators clash: France

Confrontations broke out today in Republic Square, in the center of the French capital, Paris, between police forces and demonstrators who gathered to protest the Comprehensive Security Law.

Media outlets reported that the demonstrators set fire to a protest in the center of the capital, while the firefighting devices worked to extinguish the fires.

They added that tension had increased between the demonstrators and the security forces due to the police assault on a black man, last Thursday, in a case that put pressure on the government.

The gatherings were not limited to the capital only, as thousands of people gathered on Saturday in a number of regions in France to condemn a law prepared and which the movement organizers consider violates freedoms.
