The Iranian news agency Tasnim quoted President Hassan Rouhani as saying: "Unfortunately, the Americans have shown that they are violating all their commitments ... It is better to leave the region to develop stability and security."
The remarks came during a meeting between Rouhani and his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani on the margin of the 19th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
At the same meeting, Rouhani accused the United States of being a "serious threat to regional and international stability" after US accusations of attacks on the oil carriers in the Gulf of Oman.
"In the last two years, the administration of the United States has proven an aggressive approach and poses a serious threat to stability in the region and the world by violating all international norms," he said.
The statement comes shortly after the United States accused Iran of "responsibility" for the two attacks on Thursday, targeting Norwegian and Japanese oil carriers in the Gulf of Oman.
For more than a month, the region has been witnessing an upsurge in tensions between the United States and Iran.
