Pompeo: We coordinate efforts with Germany on the Syrian north

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday he would discuss with German Defense Ministry officials on how to coordinate efforts in the north of Syria.

Speaking at a news conference in Berlin, Pompeo said his country is working to find a political solution to the conflict in Syria and to prevent the escalation of violence. Noting America's efforts are to find a solution in Syria, and Security Council resolution 2254 is the reference," he said.

Pompeo added that Washington "forces its troops to work to achieve a mechanism to reduce the escalation of violence and establish a system as a protective area, to prevent attacks from the Syrian or Turkish sides."

"We are working collectively and we hope to make progress," he said.

Pompeo began a five-day visit to Berlin on Friday, where he met German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The European tour of Pompeo includes Switzerland, the Netherlands and Britain.
