Omar al-Bashir detained in Kober prison under intensive security guard

Sudanese authorities detained ousted President Omar al-Bashir on Tuesday evening and transferred him to Kober prison under an intensive security guard.

Two Sudanese officials said in a statement to CNN that "President al-Bashir was detained in a separate place from the place of detention of other figures in his regime who were arrested after overthrowing him, in the latest development on the site of the presence of al-Bashir."

Officials of the Transitional Military Council said the ousted president was "in a safe place" without giving further details.

It is worth mentioning that the news comes at a time when the Sudanese National Congress Party (NCP) has demanded the Transitional Military Council to release "immediately" a number of its leaders and members, and warned against delaying the peaceful transfer of power because of the steps taken by the Council.
