Media: Russia announces to establish air base in Qamishlo

The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that it has started building an air base in the city of Qamishlo in northeastern Syria, Sky News Arabia reported.

The Russian Defense Ministry said today that Russia has begun the establishment of a helicopter base in the city of Qamishlo northeast of Syria.

The ministry said the new base in Qamishlo is protected by surface-to-air missiles and three helicopters have been deployed there so far.

Russian sources have spoken a few days ago that Russia will lease Qamishlo airport for 49 years from the Syrian regime.
