James Jeffrey: No timetable for US withdrawal from Syria

"There is no timetable for withdrawing from Syria," US special envoy to Syria James Jeffrey was quoted by Reuters as saying. He called on countries from which IS was descended to participate in the burden of trials and rehabilitation.

"We think there are between 15,000 and 20,000 supporters for IS in Syria and Iraq, many of whom are sleeper cells," James Jeffrey said. "The organization has only a few hundred elements and less than one square kilometer of land," he said.

"The United States calls on states to restore the elements of the organization who are arrested by the SDF to participate in the burden of trials and rehabilitation."

He said: "The struggle to defeat the ideology of IS will continue and that there is no timetable for the withdrawal of the US from northern Syria."
