Iraqi Presidency condemns Turkey’s targeting of Sidkan, considers it serious violation of Iraqi sovereignty

The Iraqi Presidency condemned targeting Sidkan area in Kurdistan region by one of the Turkish occupation's drones, and considered it a serious violation of Iraq's sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, 11/08/2020, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Iraqi Republic affirmed that the repeated Turkish military violations of Iraqi lands are a serious violation of Iraq's sovereignty, calling for the cessation of all military operations that would prejudice good neighborly relations and to rely on dialogue and understanding to solve the border problems between the two countries.

The following is the text of the statement:

"We condemn the blatant attack carried out by Turkey via a drone that targeted Sidkan area in Kurdistan Region.

The repeated Turkish military violations of Iraqi lands are a serious violation of the sovereignty of Iraq and a clear violation of international laws, charters and good neighborly relations. We condemn these aggressive acts that resulted in the martyrdom of a number of innocent citizens in addition to the heroic border guard officers. We call for the immediate cessation of these attacks and sitting at the table of dialogue and understanding to solve the border problems between the two neighboring countries by peaceful means in a manner that preserves the security and stability of the region."

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi Security Media Cell announced today, Tuesday, that a commander of a brigade and a regiment was killed by Turkish shelling in the Sidkan area.
