Iraqi Intelligence announced arrest of "Khalifa al-Baghdadi"

The official Iraqi news agency said that the National Intelligence Service announced on Wednesday the arrest of Abdel Nasser Qerdash, the candidate to succeed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in leading ISIS mercenaries.

So far, the agency and the Iraqi government have not released any details about the arrest and its circumstances.

In October 2019, ISIS confessed to the killing of the mercenary leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his deputy Abu al-Hassen al-Muhajir in an audio recording by the new mercenary spokesman Abu Hamza al-Qurayshi in an audio message released by their media wing.

According to the audio recording, a Saudi person dubbed "Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Qurayshi" will be replaced by al-Baghdadi in the leadership of the mercenaries.

The United States of America and the Syrian Democratic Forces announced that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and his deputy Abu al-Hassen al-Muhajir were killed in two separate operations in Idlib which is under Turkish influence last October 2019.
