Iraq launches a military operation to pursue ISIS mercenaries

On Thursday, Iraqi forces launched a military operation north of the capital, Baghdad, to pursue ISIS mercenaries.

The Iraqi News Agency quoted the security media cell as saying that "under the direction of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and under the supervision of the Joint Operations Command, the Baghdad Operations Command has begun implementing a broad military security operation north of Baghdad."

It explained that "the Special Operations Command of the Special Forces / Army Chief of Staff, the 37th Automated Infantry Brigade, the Rapid Response Brigade, and the Federal Police Task Force, with the support of aviation, participated in the operation."

It added that "this process came according to accurate intelligence information, to pursue the remnants of the ISIS terrorist gangs, and to search these areas, to enhance security and stability, arrest the wanted people and protect the interests of citizens in them."
