Iran warns America of threatening Iranian oil tankers

Iranian Foreign Ministry announced the recall of the Swiss ambassador in Tehran, which takes care of U.S. interests, to warn Washington against "the absence of blocking the movement of any Iranian oil tanker in international waters.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif called America's threats to Iranian oil tankers to Venezuela illegal, dangerous and a form of piracy.

"America's threats are illegal and dangerous, a form of piracy and a major threat to international peace and security," Zarif said in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in response to America's threats to Iranian oil tankers bound for Venezuela.

"Iran has the right to take appropriate and necessary measures to counter any U.S. threat anywhere in the world," Zarif said.

"Following Zarif's letter, Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi summoned the Swiss ambassador who sponsors U.S. interests in Iran to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, calling on the U.S. government not to threaten any Iranian oil tanker in international waters," the statement said.
