The descendants of the survivors of the massacres of the Ottoman Empire take their place in the ranks of the Syrian Democratic Forces SDF and with their resistance they take revenge for hundreds of years and their people who were subjected to the genocide, Simko Harun is one of these descendants, a fighter from the Armenian
In 1915, the Ottoman Empire committed genocide against the Armenian, Syriac, and Yazidi people, during which more than 1.2 million Armenians were killed, while the Armenians, Syriacs, and Yazidis who survived the massacres migrated and went to Rojava Kurdistan.
Immigration from Mardin to Qamishlo
Simko Harun's family was forced to flee the massacres of the Ottoman Empire in 1915, when they migrated from the city of Mardin to the city of Qamishlo. However, the family did not relieve the pressure, as the Syrian regime, according to its strict policy, does not allow the components to speak their mother tongue and live according to their culture. For this reason, many components such as the Armenians and Syriac were deprived of their culture and language and could not speak it well. With the start of the Rojava Revolution, and with the ideology of leader Abdullah Ocalan, the protection of nationalities, languages and cultures became an essential duty.
In response to those policies, Harun learned the Kurdish, Arabic, Turkish and German languages, but he says he feels inferior because he has not learned his mother tongue. His family does not speak the Armenian language even inside the house for fear of the Syrian regime. This blur of Armenian language and culture prompted him to further search for the history and language of Armenians. After reading the books of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the start of the Rojava Revolution, in 2013 he joined the ranks of the rest of the youth in the ranks of fighters to defend nationalities and revenge for his people who were massacred and protected their lands.
"The descendants of the massacres must be the vanguard of the resistance."
On the brutal attacks by the occupying Turkish state and its mercenaries, Harun says: “We are separated by less than two kilometers from the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation. After all the massacres committed against the peoples, especially the Armenian people, my presence here on the Ain Issa fronts is very important to me and has a different meaning. After the massacres Committed against my people, we must be at the forefront in facing the attacks of the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries. This is our primary duty. The greatest joy is that we have strong forces in confronting the occupiers."
"The massacres must not be allowed to be completed and returned."
Harun pointed out that the occupied components are targeted in any attack that occurs, and he said: “In all brutal attacks, the Assyrian, Armenian, and Syriac people are particularly targeted. As happened in 2015 when ISIS mercenaries at the forefront targeted the Armenian, Syriac, and Kurdish people. Many of our Armenian people were exposed at the hands of ISIS mercenaries for killing, displacement and the most brutal violations against them, the occupying Turkish state, by targeting the Armenian component, wants to complete the massacre committed by the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, the Armenian people are subjected to brutal attacks, just as the Kurdish, Arab, Assyrian, Syriac, and Yazidi people suffer. These intolerance as a result of the Turkish state. "
"Resisting our people as a result of victory"
Despite all these attacks, our people resist in Ain Issa alongside their fighters, and this for us is a great victory. One of the mothers from Ain Issa told me that you who took up arms and resisted in the face of the occupiers are you. Saying this raised our spirits more.
Harun on called on all Armenian youth, Assyrians, and Syriac to join the military forces and achieving the dreams of their ancestors and their comrades who were martyred for this revolution.
