The Rojava Kurdistan Festival of Culture and Art is held annually in different regions inside and outside Rojava, where it was organized for the first time in the German city of Vitoria in 2014, by the Intellectuals Union of Rojava Kurdistan in Europe.
Then, the festival center was transferred to Qamishlo in northern Syria, but the festival still continues to show its activities in Europe as well.
In this regard, the Member of the Intellectuals Union of Rojava Kurdistan Ahmed Husseini explained in a statement to our agency that a small festival was held in Zana hall in 2017, after the festival center was moved to Qamishlo city. In 2018, the festival was held in the city of Kobane, and in 2019 and 2020, the festival was held in the Rojava Kurdistan Intellectual Union Center (HRRK).
About 106 participants present their products in the festival
Ahmed Husseini mentioned that he participated in the seventh festival, which is currently taking place in the city of Qamishlo under the slogan "Green Fountains Salute All the Cities of the Heart", about 106 people presented and will present during 8 days a lot of cultural and artistic performances, including reading poetry and stories in Arabic and Kurdish, presenting theatrical performances, cinematic shows, giving lectures and seminars on the problems facing intellectuals and politicians or the crisis experienced by Rojava, in addition to organizing seminars on the Kurdish language and ways to unify the cultural discourse in Rojava, and the development and revival of culture and art.
The goal of culture and art festivals
Husseini stressed: "The aim of presenting festivals of culture and art is to create a solid foundation for culture and art in Rojava, enable the development and revival of Kurdish literature and art, strengthen the bonds of the Kurdish language in society, and create a link between writing and listening."
In his speech, Husseini described the writer's role as the role of the fighter on the fronts, and said: "The fighter uses weapons, but the writer uses his pen to register victories, events and what is going on, and save them in the history records to become a legacy for future generations."
The level where the festival reached
Ahmed Husseini pointed out in his speech that this festival was distinguished from its predecessor with the participation of a large number of writers and intellectuals, in addition to increasing the number of days of the festival and enriching its various programs. This distinction indicates the great development witnessed by the culture and art festivals in Rojava Kurdistan year after year.
