France: Russia-Turkey agreement on Idlib fragile and ambiguous

The French presidency said on Friday that the Russian-Turkish reached agreement on Thursday evening in Moscow for a ceasefire in northwestern Syria remains fragile and contains a number of "ambiguities."

"The Russians and Turks have agreed on a base that has produced a ceasefire that has not yet taken root," the French presidency said, referring to "a reduction in the military escalation despite a number of moves on the ground."

"This agreement contains a number of ambiguities, issues that are difficult to deal with, particularly on withdrawal from the M4 and M5 international routes, and political and humanitarian support." There is nothing clear about his arrangements."

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday evening announced a ceasefire in Idlib after an escalation of violence in recent weeks in the region.
