France: Europe will not give in to turkish blackmail in Turkey over migrants

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian confirmed on Wednesday that Europe will not "bow to blackmail" practiced by Turkey over the immigration issue, and its borders will remain "closed" to migrants sent by Ankara.

The European Union will not bow to this blackmail (...) the borders of Greece and the Schengen area are closed, and we will ensure that they remain closed, so things are clear!" He told members of the National Assembly.

In order to obtain more Western support in the Syrian file, Turkey announced last week that it would open its borders with Greece for migrants to cross into Europe. The Turkish President warned that a new migrant crisis can only be avoided if Europe supports his country's efforts in Syria.
