Cyprus has started legal action against three companies involved in gas exploration by Turkey to the west of the island to bypass the island's continental shelf, officials said. The officials refused to name the companies but said they were not Turks.
A Turkish drilling vessel, El-Fateh, has been set up in western Cyprus since last month and another drilling vessel, Yavuz, is scheduled to be deployed to the east of the island soon. "We have already started legal action against companies that, cooperate with TPAO ".
Gas discoveries in the eastern Mediterranean have revealed in recent years' tensions and allegations of overlapping judicial authorities between the two countries, which do not have diplomatic relations.
