At least 20 citizen killed due to car bomb in south Afghanistan

Taliban, which has carried out almost daily attacks since and before peace talks with the United States collapsed earlier this month, said the target was a government intelligence department building in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province.

A senior defense ministry official in Kabul said the militants wanted to target a training base for the country's National Security Directorate, but stopped the car packed with explosives outside the nearby hospital gate.

Haj Atta Jan Haqban, a member of Qalat Regional Council, said 20 bodies and 95 wounded had been evacuated from the scene of the blast. He said the death toll could rise as rescue teams continued to search for bodies in the rubble.
