Today , the 13th round of the series of meetings of Astana would be held, with the participation of the three countries intervening in the Syrian crisis to protect themselves, calling themselves the "guarantor", which is Russia, Turkey and Iran, in this round the delegation of the regime and the parties of Turkey, which calls themselves "the opposition" would also participate in it, while for the first time Iraq and Lebanon will participate as observers.
The 13th round will focus on the situation in Syria, especially the developments in Idlib and north-east Syria, where bilateral and tripartite meetings will take place. The main session will be held on August 2.
The former Astana meetings, sponsored by Turkey, Russia and Iran, have brought Syria into a vicious cycle of violence. The result was the killing of thousands and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of the people. Turkey's occupation of some Syrian regions through agreements with Russia at the expense of groups calling themselves the opposition, and increasing the area controlled by the regime's forces.
Meetings of Astana .. What happened and the winner?
The first round of the Astana meetings was held on 23-24 January 2017, under the supervision of the Russian, Turkish and Iranian as international and regional parties with their military forces and armed groups on Syrian land. At this meeting, Turkey, Russia and Iran shared influence and roles by seeking to strengthen the cease-fire within Syrian territory. These parties agreed on 29 December 2016. The solutions proposed in Syria by the tripartite were based on the Aleppo model, in which Turkey sold its mercenary groups to the regime and Russia and restored the city of Aleppo to the control of the regime. The parties sought to apply the Aleppo model to all cities, and as a result of the first meeting got Turkey in exchange for Aleppo on the Russian green light to occupy the Jrablos and al-Bab in northern Syria.
The second round began on February 16, 2017, which was a failure since its inception. The delegation of the so-called Syrian opposition of Turkey, attended two rounds and a full day late. Turkey reduced the representation of its delegation and delayed the issuance of a joint statement at the end of the tour in the light of its alliance with Jabhat al-Nusra mercenaries ) On the ground, and despite the Russian announcement of the arrival of the second round to establish a "firm mechanism" to monitor the cease-fire, but Russia was unable to reach the goal of ending the mercenaries of (Jabhat al-Nusra) because Turkey was rejecting the decision and was in support of these mercenaries.
The agreement was again between Turkey, Russia and Iran. The tour concluded that Iran would officially become a "guarantor" of a cease-fire in Syria alongside Turkey and Russia, to grant legitimacy to Iran to exist within the Syrian territory after it granted legitimacy to Turkey occupied the territory of northern Syria in the previous two rounds, while the parties decided to form committees to monitor the truce and violations, and committees to follow up the file of aid, and committees for the file of prisoners and detainees, but nothing has changed on the ground, killings, bombings, clashes and starvation continued.
Although this round, held in early May 2017, in which Russia, Turkey and Iran agreed on a memorandum of understanding to "ease the escalation", within four regions of Syria, but the Syrian bloodshed continued.
The round was held on July 4, 2017 and ended without signing documents. The agreement on the establishment of three "escalation zones" in Idlib, Homs and Ghouta al-Sharqiya was suspended temporarily. The parties of Astana, Russia, Turkey and Iran to coordinate the borders of that areas.
The sixth round of the Astana meetings held in mid-2017 ensured the interests of the "Guarantor States". Russia managed to ease the attacks of the armed groups on the regime's forces and thus helped the regime regain control of new areas and impose a blockade on other areas. Turkey granted the occupied areas since August 2016. It also granted observer status, which Turkey did not expect after all its interventions in the Syrian crisis failed to achieve its ambitions in the region. Iran, which was fighting alongside the regime, granted "legitimate" presence in Syria because these only meetings granted observer status and the guarantor of the cease-fire.
Astana 7 and 8
The 7th round was held on 30 October 2017, and the 8th round was held on 21 December 2017. No positive results can be mentioned. The release of prisoners and the exchange of prisoners and the continuous delivery of aid to the population in the besieged areas.

It was supposed to discuss the formation of the Constitutional Commission, but the talks failed at the beginning because of a argument between Russia and James Jeffrey.
It was held on April 25, 2019, during which the regime ordered a military operation against Idlib, where mercenaries were gathered from all parts of Syria. After this fourth round of Astana, all fronts of fighting against the regime began to stop by Turkish orders. The mercenaries were transferred respectively, and the mercenaries who refused to sign the surrender documents were transferred to Idlib, which is controlled by al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), which is classified on the international terrorism list .
