America: Regime, Russian air strikes reckless escalation of conflict

The US State Department said the United States remains troubled by the air strikes by Russia and the Syrian regime in northwestern Syria and believes it is a reckless escalation of violence.

The indiscriminate attacks on civilians and public infrastructure such as schools, markets and hospitals are a reckless escalation of conflict and unacceptable, and demanded an end to violence, said ministry spokeswoman Morgan Ortagos.

Air strikes by the Syrian regime, backed by Russia, focus on the southern province of Idlib and northern Rif Hama, leaving hundreds of civilians dead and hundreds of thousands displaced.

Hundreds of members of Congress signed a letter to President Donald Trump last week demanding that the United States remain involved in the Syrian conflict, saying they were "deeply concerned" about extremist groups and armed factions in Syria.
