Afrin Yezidis: Turkey displaced us, destroyed our holy sites

The Yazidis people who were displaced from Afrin demanded from the human rights and international organizations to intervene to stop violations of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries against the Yazidi community and the Kurdish people in general in Afrin and Al-Shahba.

Violations and crimes of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries continue against the people of Afrin, whether those who are internally or forcibly displaced to Al-Shahba district, and these violations particularly affect the Yazidi community in Afrin by displacing them, looting and demolishing their holy places.

In this regard, citizens of the Yazidi community living in Tel Refaat district of Al-Shahba canton affirmed that, despite their displacement, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries do not stop targeting them in Al-Shahba and Sherawa district, and they shell the populated villages almost daily.

The Yazidi citizen Hanan Nasro said, “The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries, when they launched their aggression against Afrin canton, tried to repeat the hideous massacres against the Kurdish people in general, and the Yazidi in particular.

Hanan indicated that the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries did not only displace them, but rather demolished and looted all their shrines and holy sites in Afrin, the last of which is the Sheikh Ali Shrine of the Yezidis in the village of Basofan which was destroyed.

Hanan Nasro concluded her speech by calling on international and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to stop violations of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries, end the occupation of Afrin and protect the holy places.

For his part, the Yazidi citizen, Shukri Abdo, blessed the month of Ramadan for the Muslims. He said: "We hope in this holy month that security and peace will prevail all over the world, and the displaced will return to their homes."

Shukri noted that the Turkish occupation and its mercenary groups seek to break the will of the Yazidi people, by displacing them and targeting them wherever they are, and destroying their shrines and their holy places.

Of note, Al-Shahba canton and the villages of Sherawa district have received about 2000 families from the Yazidi community as they were displaced from Afrin and from the indigenous people of Sherawa District.

In April 25 this year, the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries destroyed the Sheikh Ali shrine, which is considered one of the holy sites of the Yezidis in the village of Basofan in the district of Sherawa.
