Afrin's occupied reality exposes international norms, laws
The jurist and political activist, Gabriel Mustafa, noted that the crimes of Turkish occupation and its mercenaries in the occupied Afrin are a violation of international norms and laws and considered that the Turkish occupying Power has come to see itself above international laws.
The jurist and political activist Gabriel Mustafa spoke to ANHA's agency about the crimes and mercenaries of the Turkish occupying state against Afrin's indigenous people, with the 6 year of its occupation.
Gabriel Mustafa said that the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries have been carrying out systematic cultural extermination in the city of Afrin: "Since the occupation of Afrin to date, the Turkish occupation army and its affiliated groups have committed crimes such as murder, kidnapping, demographic change and destruction of archaeological sites, and many other crimes against the people of Afrin, according to international organizations, these crimes amount to crimes against humanity."
Gabriel Mustafa explained that one of the dirtiest crimes of the Turkish occupation was demographic change, and continued: "The Turkish occupying state has continued its violations since the beginning of the occupation. It is undertaking demographic change through the construction of more than 25 settlements. Mercenary families have been settled instead of the indigenous population. This is also a demographic change. The number of families they sent to Afrin from various settlements in various regions of Syria and they have settled there is 9 thousands."
"The Kurds in Afrin before the occupation were 95%, but because of the ongoing violence and crimes against the indigenous people, this is only 20%."
"Despite all these crimes, the United Nations has not yet taken any clear actions or decisions against the Turkish state. The crimes of demographic change committed by the Turkish occupying state in Afrin, looting of monuments and distortion of the history of the whole region violate article 56 of the Treaty of The Hague in 1907."
"The crimes and mercenaries of the Turkish occupying state in the occupied Afrin are a violation of international laws, and the Turkish state has come to consider itself above international laws."
