UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, suspends his work

The United Nations issued a statement stating that its Special Envoy to Syria suffered an eye injury and would limit its activity for a period of time.

The statement added that "Pedersen will limit his activity on the advice of doctors," noting that "he will not be able to travel during the coming period."

"The doctors expected it to be fully recovered soon," the statement said.

Since January, Pedersen has begun his new post after completing the mission of his predecessor, Stefan de Mistura, who spent four years without finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
