Riad Dirar: War will revive extremist forces

Riad Dirar pointed out that Erdogan's (Ottoman) project overpasses international agreements, but it will fail, and lead to Turkey division. He saw that there is a new alliance under Russia's leadership to remove U.S. forces from the region. He warned of spreading terrorism and extremism in the light of the continuing wars.

The Middle East area witnessed a lot of tension during the recent period, and one of the most prominent events was Turkey's expansionist practices in the Middle East, which provoked a regional and international anger against it, followed by tension between Washington and Tehran over the death of Qassem Soleimani, that warned of a new war to get things back to cool down.

In the third part of the interview with Riad Dirar, he spoke about the latest developments and the future of the region.

Erdogan's Ottoman project goes beyond international conventions

He said: "The current Turkish government has benefited from the secular project in Turkey and stepped up with an  Islamic cover. If it were not for secularism, an Islamist would not have been able to come to power in a country like Turkey.”

He explained: "The secular system allows everyone and even the Islamists to reach government, and this advantage exist in the secular system. The project of secularism is a state project, and Turkey is obliged to remain within the borders of its country because it signed international agreements that drew the borders of the country, but today, there is an attempt to revive the Ottoman project that goes beyond the international agreements.”

He added: “The project of Justice and Development Party and Erdogan is a new project to colonize the region. This threatens Turkey neighboring areas first, and reflect on Turkey by failure and partition because Erdogan's project is failed, and he will face Saddam Hussein's fate if he does not retreat his ambitions and policies.”

Europeans are afraid of Turkish bursts

Riad Dirar assessed the European states positions as following: "European states do not express their opinions honestly during discussions and meetings, but there were some marks. Europeans are very affected by these policies, and they fear Turkey’s bursts towards Europe. There are also the files of refugees in Turkey, waves of migration to European countries, and Turkey's wars on the borders of the neighboring and distant countries. All files confuse Europe and directly affect them. "

Egypt is struggling with the Brotherhood's project to maintain its state

Relating to the Egyptian affairs, he added: "Egypt has been affected a lot by Turkish interventions, and it does not accept the Turkish support for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. As you know, the Brotherhood gets support from Turkey and many other countries. Today there is a major conflict for Egypt to confront the Brotherhood to preserve Egypt. The Project of the Muslim Brotherhood is not a state project, but a large project covers the entire Arab region, and this from their perspective.

The Egyptian state is an old country in the Middle East with a long-standing history, and in order to preserve the legitimacy of the state, all projects that threaten the region and those who support them must be confronted."

America attempted to contain the Iranian project, benefit from it

Dirar addressed the American-Iranian conflict saying: "For forty years of disputes between America and Iran, neither America could contain Iran, nor Iran could carry out its agendas, as it wanted to export the revolution, but it served America when there was an agreement on the nuclear file."

He added: "Iranians prepared their cards in the region, and advanced more, taking advantage of the chaos following the Arab Spring. They penetrated Yemen and entered Syria. They have also had presence in Iraq since the American war against Saddam Hussein. They are present in Lebanon through Hezbollah, and spreading in the region under different names. Iran's goal is to draw the Shiite crescent to control the region till the Mediterranean."

Dirar said about the conflict reality: "America has helped and approached the Iranian position on this subject, but there are different policies in America, and democracy in America is turning from one politician to another and a president to another.  So US policy with Iran changed, but it has never tried to eliminate Iran's project. On the contrary, it wants to contain it and use it for its interests in Asia later, because America today prefers to keep it in the region in order to protect Israel."

He added: "America has another project in Asia and China today. Iran's presence is very important as an unconcerned ally for this project in the region. Iran has an ambition that America can achieve it being internal, but not colonial. It also similar to the Turkish one because of the weakness of the Arab countries and their projects."

Baghdad alliance is new under Russia's leadership to kick US out from the region

"The recent conflict between Iran and America is an Iranian attempt to drive U.S. forces out of the region, as Iran considers the U.S. presence as an obstacle to Iran's outer ambitions after Iran’s position became stronger because of the establishment of the Russian-Iranian-Turkish alliance in both Astana and Sochi," he said.

He added: "We can call this the new Baghdad alliance that aims at kicking the American forces out of the region, which is similar to the old Baghdad alliance between "America, Turkey and Iran" to take out and besiege the Soviet Union under American leadership. Today the scene reversed with the goal to get out America from the region under Russia's leadership."

"Iran's downing of the U.S. plane, targeting the oil tankers at sea, and U.S. embassy in Baghdad have all become U.S. pressure cards on Iran. Targeting Qassem Soleimani was the beginning of an American escalation in response to previous Iranian attacks, and a clear message to Iran that America will escalate further if Iran does not stop the escalation, so we saw Iran targeting American forces in Iraq with a number of phantom missiles, and then entering into new understandings,” he said.

World War exists, it is not for anyone's interest

"World War will not reach all the world, but it is the participation of many countries of the world in a war in a specific region, as we see today in Syria and in the Middle East, where there is a global conflict in several regions, and conflict can be ended by determining the results of changing the shape of these areas and agreeing to divide them according to the interests of the conflicting parties, or may then extend to other parties, but so far there are no signs or plans that will widen the conflict, there is some kind of management of the crisis, but it is not clear to what extent it will last, depending on the extent of participating the activities in the region, the expansion of fighting, and the extent to which the major powers are affected by this conflict."

"Whenever there is a war, there is extremism and terrorism because the extremist forces revive in the war atmosphere. Therefore the war is not in the interest of the world, and it will spread to areas that are not affected, and the Europeans, Americans and Russians must contribute to solving this issue because if the war continues, it may reach areas were under the Soviet Union’s administration," he said.

In north and east Syria, there is a project that will lead to a real understanding among the peoples of the area

As for the situation in the areas of northern and eastern Syria and the repercussions of international conflicts on them, the Co-Head of the Syrian Democratic Syria Council said: "We in the north and east of Syria have to find a solution to this region according to a correct reading that leads to achievement of understandings among the people of the region."

He explained: "At the current stage, there are proposed theories, including the theory of the new Middle East which may be based on the management of destructive chaos, or creative chaos. In both cases, we want this chaos that occurs to create a new system more balanced than the one in the early twentieth century, and give people their historical and existential rights that they have not received, and that is what we expect to happen."

He added, "What is going on so far is the drawing of new administrations with new policies, and the continuation of these battles may lead to new results and details in the region, perhaps sectarian or national, and this will not be for the benefit of anyone, but the project of the peoples’ brotherhood and the democratic nation is the right project that leads to the achievement of a real consensus among the peoples of the region."
