Iraqi government declares that situation in country returns to normal

The Iraqi government announced on Tuesday that the situation in the country has returned to normal, following popular demonstrations that witnessed bloody events.

Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said that the situation in the country has returned to normal, and stressed that the government continues to issue resolutions that meet the legitimate demands of the demonstrators.

The Iraqi authorities announced Tuesday the opening of the Green Zone in central Baghdad after meeting the demands of the demonstrators.

According to the official agency  this step comes after the success of negotiations aimed at calming the situation between the Office of the Prime Minister and the demonstrators, which led to instructions from the Iraqi Prime Minister to start meeting the demands of the demonstrators, and following the fruitful moves by the President of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Mohammed Halbousi and parliamentary committees against the background of the speech of the President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Barham Saleh.

Iraq has witnessed mass demonstrations since last Tuesday, October 1 of this month, in more than 10 provinces, to demand the departure of the government of Adel Abdul Mahdi.

More than 110 people were killed in the violence in the protests and some 6,000 were injured.
