The Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries continue the series of repeated violations against the people of Afrin since last year's occupation. According to human rights organizations, the violations included killings, kidnappings, torturing, demanding ransom and raping, as well as the change in the population structure, which was represented by changing the names of villages and fields, displacing the people, and most recently the construction of the partition wall.
The spokesman for the Human Rights Organization of Afrin region Ibrahim Shiekho talked to Hawar news agency (ANHA) about the series of violations documented in the past few months.
Ransom demand after abduction is one of the methods of forced displacement
Sheikho talked about a number of kidnappings of the residents of Afrin during the past few months. The citizen Ali Battal, from the village of Basota, who is at 38 years was arrested at the checkpoint of the village of Trende on 9 June. The mercenaries demanded his family to pay a ransom and his fate is still anonymous.
They also killed two citizens from the village of Sheikhlar belonging to Mobata district, and they were Abdul Rahman Sheikh Ahmed bin Bilal, aged 38 and Hasan Hannan, at 35, where they were working together in the sale of vegetables, and they were living in the neighborhood of al-Ashrafieh in Afrin canton and were assassinated on outskirts of Mobata district.
The citizen Mohammed Jamil Hannan from the village of Kokan al-Fawqani was arrested after he refused to leave, and he was taken to an unknown destination. Moreover, six people from the village were injured, and they were Mohammed Battal, Hannan Mesto, Zeinab Esso, Nazir Hesso and Hasan Abu Hussein because they refused to leave their village.
The citizen Suleiman Silo Battal, who is at 38-year from Janders district, was killed on 28 May this year by Aharar al-Sharqiyya mercenaries.
Scorched earth policy
Sheikho also addressed the violations committed against the nature of Afrin, where the agricultural crops of the people were burned on 15 May last year, 11,000 hectares of lands were damaged, 120 trees were uprooted under pretext of the establishment of military barracks in the villages of Jelbereh, Kimar in Sherawa and the village of Darwish in Rajo district.
In the continuation of the policy of the demographic change, the mercenaries have set up a camp in the area of Bulbul to accommodate more than 600 families of the mercenaries.
Teaching and public facilities exposed to massive destruction by Turkish occupation
The spokesman of the Human Rights Organization Ibrahim Sheikho said that the Turkish occupation prevented the teaching of the Kurdish language in Afrin, and replaced it by the Turkish, the curriculum was changed to the Turkish curriculum and the imposition of Turkish dress in schools.
The construction of the partition wall in the vicinity of Afrin is contrary to international conventions
In this regard, these practices constitute a flagrant violation of international conventions, in particular article 3 common to the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and its annexed Protocols of 1977, article 55 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and article 42 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949, which impose on the occupying powers to preserve everything in the occupied territories as established and with no change.
At the end of his speech, Sheikho appealed to international and human rights organizations and the United Nations to act quickly to stop these violations and attacks against the people of Afrin and all the occupied territories in the north of Syria.
