At least 24 Afghan security forces killed

24 Afghan security personnel were killed in a group attack believed to have links with the Taliban in southern Afghanistan.

At least 24 Afghan security forces were killed on Friday in an attack on their base in southern Afghanistan, two Afghan officials told AFP.

"At three in the morning (10:30 GMT), 24 Afghan police and security forces were killed when six police infiltrators opened fire on them as they slept," said Rahmatullah Yarmil, a spokesman for the governor of Zabul.

Zabul Provincial Council Chairman Ata Jan Haqq has affirmed that the attackers have links to the Taliban.
