Al-Bashir under house arrest, army to issue important statement shortly

Sources said that the Sudanese army has put President Omar al-Bashir under house arrest and an important statement is being prepared to be released after a while.

Media sources said on Thursday Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is under house arrest, as the armed forces said they would issue an important statement.

The sources said that members of the leadership office of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) have been arrested.

The sources also said they did not exclude the departure of President Omar al-Bashir, after the armed forces announcement that it would broadcast "an important statement" for the Sudanese people.

On Wednesday morning, Radio and Television announced that the Sudanese armed forces would issue an important statement early, following reports of the army's officers entering the headquarters in Omdurman.
